Last Saturday saw the final round of the National Arena League with The Borough of Broxbourne Swim Squad back at The Venue Borehamwood. Going into the final round BoBSS were seeded 2nd overall which meant that if they held onto 2nd place then they would be promoted to the 1st Division.
The competition was fierce and after the first 10 events BoBS were in 4th place behind Hackney Aquatics, Puckeridge and Aylesbury & District. Event 13 saw our first win with Dayna taking the 100m BR followed by Lily Merrett & Molly Cobbold. The girls also rose to the challenge in the U12 Medley relay, U14 FS relay & U16 medley relay with Charlotte Williams, Holly Morgan, Lily Rogers, Abi Larkman, Bella Parkus, Catherine Ryan, Libby Dunford, & Ezme all adding to the winning team races.
The boys also performed well with a whole host of 2nd place finishes from Zane Batt, Iggy Mrodeja & Dominic McCarthy. It was this consistency which showed in the end. By the time the squadron relays were swum BoBSS had already secured 2nd place overall which meant that next year they would be promoted to Division One. This was an excellent 1st year of competition of gaining promotion at the 1st time of asking.
The squad was set up to ensure that swimmers from local clubs are able to compete at a higher level and by the end of the 1st competition it is mission accomplished. The next event for the squad will be the East Region Swimming Championships which are held at the beginning and end of May. Watch this space for further success.
BoB Swim Squad B finished 5th in their Gala overall, but this result does not reflect the very fine swims that took place during the evening, with many swimmers achieving personal best times.
Courtney Burke achieved PB’s in both the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly, finishing 4th and 2nd respectively, and Scott Carpenter also had personal best swims in the 200 IM and the 100 Breatstroke finishing 5th and 3rd in his races.
The Girls 9 to 11 team of Emily Pickard, Molly Hagan, Simran Misir and Rachael Carpenter had a great evening, finishing 1st in the Medley Relay and 2nd in the Freestyle relay. Individually, Molly Hagan also came 1st in the 50 Breaststroke, with Emily, Simran and Rachael all coming second in their individual races; Emily and Simran in personal best times.
Rhys Dolan swam a huge 4 second PB in the 100 Backstroke (1.10.11) in the 15/under age group. Dougie Grayling achieved a 3 second PB in the Open 100 Breaststroke (1.31.74).and Lucy Hinks swam PB’s in both the 15/u 100 Backstroke (1.14.25) and 100 Freestyle (1.08.24). Stasi Karameros achieved a 2 second PB in the 15/u 100 Butterfly as did Jack Pym in the 15/u 100 Freestyle (1.11.69) and Rosie Batt in the 13/u 100 Freestyle (1.14.91).
Hayden Thornhill (50 freestyle), Sam Reynolds (100 Breaststroke), Thomas Brown (100 Backstroke) and Jack Renouf (50 Breaststroke) also recorded Personal Best times. Well done to all these swimmers.
The Girls U16 medley relay saw Maggie and Ellis PB, which helped teammates Mollie and Lucy to a 3rd place finish and the Open team of Claire, Megan, Courtney and Holly also achieved a third place finish.

Dear Parents and Swimmers,
As most of you will be aware we have been in discussion with the Borough of Broxbourne regarding the setting up of an Elite Squad. We are delighted to announce that formalities have now been completed, and the Borough of Broxbourne swim squad has been affiliated to East Swimming (formerly ASA East Region)
This squad will include Elite swimmers from both Cheshunt and Hoddesdon swimming Clubs, and will increase the range of opportunities for those wishing to take their swimming seriously. As you will be aware swimmers from both clubs have been training together on Monday and Tuesday evenings and on Sunday mornings, as well as taking part in joint head-to-head galas. Swimmers will now have the opportunity to compete together at certain events, which is a very exciting new venture for both Clubs.
Cheshunt swimming clubs will maintain their own identities and in line with Swim England guidelines will provide training opportunities close to home for younger swimmers. They will now have the advantage of being able to train and compete with like-minded swimmers of similar ability when they get older, which should help them to fulfill their true potential.
We will be entering two teams into the Arena League this year. We hope this will give opportunities to lots of swimmers from both clubs, and we will have new kit ready for the Teams by the time of our first competition in October. The Squad colours will be Purple, Black(from Cheshunt) and White (from Hoddesdon). The teams will be selected on official times from the Rankings Database. Further details of how this will work will follow shortly.
The Coaching Teams and Committees of both clubs and in addition the Borough of Broxbourne, are all delighted by this very positive move forwards and hope that we will be fully supported by the swimmers and their parents in this venture.

Mark Nelson – Chair – Cheshunt SC
